Edged, Impact & Improvised Weapons Defense I (EID-I) is NOVA's first offering in a series of intensive, reality-based courses that teaches the uses of knives and various other impact and improvised devices as defensive tools.

Designed specifically for military and law enforcement operators, EID-I is also suitable for civilians and armed citizens because the focus of this class is to provide students with a sound understanding of the most fundamental psychological, physiological and martial concepts necessary to effectively defend one's self with, or against an edged, impact or improvised weapon.

In this course you will learn both the critical mental and tactical skills necessary to defend against a knife attack with your bare hands as well as how to effectively deploy and use your own EDC (Everyday Carry) knife. If you don't already own an EDC folder knife, no worries! In this class we'll also help you choose the type of knife that best suits your needs, circumstances and lifestyle!

Instruction includes: the advantages & disadvantages of fixed/ folding and straight/ curved blades, safe handling procedures, unarmed defense against edged weapons, disarming techniques, distance/ injury risk metrics, leverage & blade mechanics, wound analysis & effects, target & defensive anatomy.

*** NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED ***
There is no prerequisite for this course but we do strongly suggest taking NOVA's Personal Defense (Level I) class prior to taking our Edged, Impact and Improvised Weapons I course. Why? The fundamental Situational Awareness, Threat & Risk Assessment and Lawful Use of Force concepts presented in our Personal Defense I course will greatly help and support your uptake and appreciation of the close-quarter self-defense techniques and tactics our edged weapons classes. Furthermore, this is a mentally and physically demanding class, and Personal Defense I typically serves a gentle introduction to the  more demanding pace of the defensive edged weapon curriculum and practice. But, whether you take PDI prior to EIDI or not, we implore you to manage your expectations accordingly and read the Required Gear List below in order to be adequately prepared.  For your comfort and safety, and to support your full participation in the practical exercises and drills practiced in this course, we utilize "inert" training aids and protective equipment.

*   This is a physically demanding class. Please consider that clothing may become torn, dirtied or sweaty.

**  Eye protection is not included in the cost of the course but can be purchased for 5. US Dollars.
